What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energetic healing art that uses laying on of hands to heal. Reiki practitioners act as a conduit, or "hollow bone", for reiki energy - just as acupuncture directs the flow of chi in our bodies to maintain health, the practice of reiki applies healing energy itself to a person receiving reiki. Reiki is being used today in hospitals all over the world to support health and wellness. Reiki (pronounced "Ray Key") is a Japanese word meaning "spiritual energy." More than just putting a name to the energy, the word reiki has become an umbrella term identifying more than 1,000 different methods of working with spiritual energy for self-growth, healing and enlightenment.
Reiki is not aligned with any particular religion and is based in universal love and compassion. As the popularity and awareness of benefits of Reiki grows, many Christians are becoming interested in this healing art and have begun to practice it. They have found that Reiki is a useful technique that helps them express compassion toward others and relieve suffering at the same time that it creates a closer connection for them to God. Because Reiki is a laying on hands healing technique similar to what Jesus practiced, it is especially appealing.

Reiki practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize. Unlike other healing therapies based on the premise of a human energy field, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced.
Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.
The laying of hands is used in Reiki therapy also as in spiritual healing. There is a difference though. In spiritual healing, a person with a strong energy field places his or her hands above a particular part of the recipient's body in order to release energy into it. So, here the healer is the one who is sending out the energy. In Reiki, however, the healer places the hands on the recipient, above the recipient, or with distance Reiki sometimes on an object representing the recipient; however, it is the recipient that draws the energy as needed. Thus, in this case, the individual being healed takes an active part in the healing process as opposed to having a passive part in spiritual healing. The individual takes responsibility for his or her healing. The recipient identifies the needs and cater to them by drawing energy as needed. The pracitioner is open and willing to allow the energy to pass through their palms and into the chakras or meridian system of the client to help accelerate the healing process by freeing blockages, resistances and many other energetic issues.

It is an amazing and wonderful thing that during our lifetimes, at this time, more and more people are participating in their own healing and the healing of others.
